How Cannabis is Regulated in Colorado
Lucky Cat operates under the rules set by Colorado’s Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED), following all state and local regulations.
- Sales: Medical cannabis has been available in Colorado Springs since 2010, following the passage of Amendment 20, which legalized medical marijuana statewide in 2000. Recreational cannabis sales in Colorado began in 2014; however, Colorado Springs initially opted out of allowing recreational sales within city limits. In 2024, voters approved recreational cannabis sales in Colorado Springs, and licensed businesses are now beginning to roll out adult-use offerings.
- Currently, Lucky Cat proudly serves the medical community only. We are in the process of expanding our operations and will be offering recreational cannabis in the near future.
- Inventory: Medical and recreational products are carefully tracked and managed separately through Colorado’s state-mandated Metrc system to ensure full compliance with inventory and sales regulations.
Taxes on Cannabis
- Recreational purchases: No standard sales tax; instead, a 15% special marijuana tax applies (plus any city/county taxes).
